Celebrating 66 Years of Excellence
Many years ago, Ethelwyn A. Castle, a daughter of Hawaii, bought nine and a half acres of land atop Maunalani Heights and there she built her home. In her will, she made provisions that, subject to the life tenures of several relatives, her home would become a residence for seniors in need of comfort and care.
In 1950, with the diligence of prominent Honolulu community leaders, Maunalani opened its doors and welcomed its first residents. Today—66 years later—Mauanalani continues to fulfill the legacy set by Ethelwyn Castle and those community leaders. Our mission is to continue serving our community by providing our residents with exceptional nursing and rehabilitation services in a breath-taking setting.
On Friday, January 29, we held our 66th Anniversary Celebration with our residents and their families, and our employees present.

Our Executive Director, Sai Chantavy, took the opportunity to share with us about Maunalani’s future plans for renovations. She also stressed that our focus this year will remain: to provide exceptional quality of care and quality of life for your loved ones, and to maintain our 5-Star status with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS).
This past year–2015–was truly a banner year for Maunalani, as was shared by our Community Life Director Czarina Tabilas-Palmeira
(i.e. Maunalani was featured on the newspapers, on TV, recognized by the community at special events, etc).
Again thank you for joining us at our celebration which gave us the opportunity to re-visit our history, celebrate our present successes, and look forward to our future endeavors.
