Maunalani Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (MNRC) is the culmination of a dream and a need in the community. Many decades ago, Ethelwyn A. Castle, a daughter of Hawaii, bought nine and a half acres of land atop Maunalani Heights and there built her home. In her will– she made provisions that, subject to the life tenures of several relatives, her home would become a residence for seniors in need of comfort and care (a part of her home still exists as part of the center today). On January 1950, with the diligence of prominent Honolulu community leaders, MNRC opened its doors and welcomed its first residents.
MNRC is a 501(c)(3) skilled nursing and rehabilitation center for Kupuna in need of long-term skilled nursing care, short-term rehabilitation care, respite services, hospice care, palliative care, and intermediate care. It is also a VA-preferred skilled nursing care provider for United States Veterans residing in Hawaii. Maunalani continues today to serve the Elder population by providing exceptional care. MNRC is a 5-star rated skilled nursing facility (*Rated by CMS –Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), and was presented the Silver National Quality Award by the American Health Care Association in 2022. MNRC will be striving for the Gold Quality Award in 2025.
