Family Letter 2-5-22

February 5, 2022 By Maunalani Staff

February 5, 2022

Aloha Family Members and Staff,

Here’s a COVID-19 update:

The positive result on the 3rd floor we reported on January 28, 2022 was obtained from a rapid antigen test. Upon retesting using the PCR method, the result was negative.  The PCR is a more accurate test, but it takes longer for the results to be known.  If someone tests positive with the rapid antigen test, we retest them with the PCR.

We are pleased that the affected resident is also symptom-free.  Many people with COVID have either no symptoms or mild symptoms, especially if they have been vaccinated.  However, severe symptoms are possible, so close monitoring is important.

Yesterday, two residents on the 2nd floor tested PCR positive. They are being closely monitored for the development of any symptoms. We immediately implemented infection control measures designed to prevent the spread of COVID.  We also tested all residents and staff on the unit. So far there are no other individuals who test positive.

As you may know, Maunalani mandates that all employees be fully vaccinated, unless there is proof of a medical or religious exemption. You may also know that CMS does not allow us to require vaccination of our residents’ visitors and family members or restrict their visitations. Therefore, to protect our residents and staff, we must enforce strict adherence to infection prevention practices:

  • If you are not feeling well, please do not come to visit; request Facetime or Zoom visits instead.
  • Wear a well-fitted mask and face shield when visiting
  • Enjoy your visits with your loved ones in our beautiful outdoor spaces
  • Sanitize your hands often
  • Report any unusual observation of your loved one to our nurses promptly.

We take the fight against infections seriously. If you have not yet been fully vaccinated, you might check the link below and schedule your vaccinations: www.vaccines.gov

Please remain safe and healthy. We will continue to provide you with regular updates when necessary. Questions and concerns may be addressed to Jerome Flores, Director of Finance/COO at 808-695-2803.

Sincerely,

Sai Chantavy, Executive Director
